Position Summary The Research Technician plays a crucial role in supporting research and development initiatives by conducting experiments, analyzing chemical compounds, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. The technician is responsible for preparing samples, operating advanced laboratory equipment, and meticulously recording data to maintain accurate records of experiments. Collaboration with chemists and other scientists is essential to troubleshoot issues and optimize processes. Additionally, the technician must uphold stringent quality control measures, handle hazardous materials safely, and stay updated with industry regulations to contribute to innovative projects and ensure the lab operates efficiently.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Sample Preparation: Preparing and handling samples for testing, which may involve measuring, mixing, and diluting substances.

Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring they are calibrated and functioning properly.

Conducting Experiments: Performing experiments according to established protocols and recording observations and results meticulously.

Data Analysis: Analyzing experimental data to draw conclusions and report findings, often using statistical software or analytical techniques.

Quality Control: Implementing and maintaining quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations when handling hazardous materials, including proper disposal and storage practices.

Collaboration: Working closely with scientists, researchers, and other lab personnel to support ongoing projects, troubleshoot problems, and optimize processes.

Documentation: Keeping detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results in compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory requirements.

Continuous Learning: Staying updated with new techniques, technologies, and industry regulations to enhance skills and improve laboratory practices.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge Or Required Skills

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science).

Experience: Experience working in a laboratory environment.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in a range of analytical techniques and instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC‑MS, NMR, spectroscopy). Familiarity with software for data analysis (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, or specialized laboratory software).

Knowledge of Chemistry Principles: Understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and chemical engineering principles as they relate to product development and formulation.

Safety Training: Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, hazardous materials handling, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, TSCA).

Problem‑Solving Skills: Ability to critically analyze experimental data, troubleshoot issues, and recommend innovative solutions in a fast‑paced R&D environment.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities to effectively document research findings, prepare technical reports, and present results to both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with colleagues across various functions, including engineering, quality assurance, and marketing.

Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail in experimental design, documentation, and data analysis.

Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, scientific advancements, and regulatory changes relevant to the field of chemistry and product development.

Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and analytical methods is essential. This includes the ability to operate complex machinery, conduct experiments accurately, and perform calculations related to chemical concentrations and reactions under moderate to limited supervision.

Education Bachelor’s in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
