Description
The Mississippi Cancer Institute Radiation Therapist primary responsibility is the application of ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist, and to provide leadership and direction for other radiation therapists. At all times, work assignments will be determined by adjustments of daily scheduled appointments and priority, needs of the patients, medical director or director. Assignments to other duties are established by census and staff levels. The MCI Radiation Therapist will work a 40 hour week, with rotating weekend/holiday on call schedule. Must be able to work and relate in a professional non-defensive manner with peers, administration, physician, visitors and patients. Will be responsible to document total care given, review and maintain patient chart, and assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into computer system. The MCI Therapist uses the Radiation-Oncology process to safely perform radiation therapy. As part of the medical team it is the responsibility of the Radiation Therapist to prepare the patient and to administer radiation treatments for cancer and other conditions. The primary responsibility of the Radiation Therapist is the application of ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instruction of the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist. They will take precise measurements of patients for treatment and fit them with specialized equipment to be used during the radiation session. During the course of treatment, they will monitor the patient’s responses, including side effects, and may adjust the schedule or doses of radiation accordingly. Provide leadership and direction for other radiation therapist. Work assignments will be determined by the adjustment of daily scheduled appointments and priority needs of the patients, medical director or chief therapist. The MCI Radiation Therapist will be assigned to work 40 hours per week; with rotating weekend/holiday on call schedule. The MCI Radiation Therapist is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures and regulations for the department and organization. Must be able to work and relate in a professional non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors. Will be responsible to document total care given, review and maintain patient chart per policy, and assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system.
