An exciting opening for a Coatings Specialist - Environmental Barrier Coatings (EBC) has arisen. As the Coating Specialist EBC, you will be working in a dynamic, integrated product team to deliver advanced coatings and surface engineering solutions to Rolls‑Royce globally across all business units. This is an opportunity within a growing technology area. The Coatings Specialist will be the corporate technical expert in environmental barrier coating (EBC) materials systems and will drive innovation towards the future state in this specialism. This role will work within an integrated product team of design, materials and manufacturing engineers to introduce Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) components. In this role, you will travel up to 10% domestically and up to 5% internationally.

Responsibilities
Lead the development of novel coating systems and architecture concepts across a global team of technical specialists
Understand fundamental behavior and controlling mechanisms for coating system properties and performance, and translating this into subsequent materials and method of manufacture improvements
Define and implement unique and relevant laboratory and rig testing methods to generate key engineering and functional property data
Develop capability within external testing service suppliers and the global University Technology Center (UTC) network
Influence functional requirements for coatings in CMC components
Present the development, testing and implementation of EBCs and advanced coating systems to engineering leadership and key stakeholders at technical and program gate reviews
Basic Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Materials, Polymer, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in coatings or ceramic materials, OR
Master's degree in Materials, Polymer, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in coatings or ceramic materials, OR
PhD in Materials, Polymer, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering
In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
Preferred Requirements
Background in environmental barrier coating (EBC) or thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems for gas turbine engine components
Strong technical knowledge of coatings and their environmental, mechanical and functional properties and performance as applied to ceramic matrix composites
Experience in industrial coating processing methods, including thermal spray, slurry / electrophoretic deposition, and CVD/PVD
Expert in coatings and materials microstructure and chemical analysis techniques used to interrogate governing mechanisms for coating performance and life
Expert in data analysis and materials characterization

Pay Range: $110,476 - $179,524 annually
