Job Summary Develop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for Mesa Community College intercollegiate sports. Performs professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program including : performing a variety of technical duties involved in the treatment, care and prevention of athletic injuries. Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.
Essential Functions 60% - Supervises and provides athletic injury management and practice / game coverage, including the prevention, rehabilitation, evaluation and care of athletic injuries; applies immediate treatment such as bandaging wounds; respiration assistance; and taping, wrapping and padding of extremities to provide physical support; arranges, organizes and assists in the administration of physical exams, health appointments, or other evaluations for athletes; including student insurance forms and / or injury claims submission and related process.
20% - Works with the team physician establishing and implementing rehabilitation programs for injured athletes; provides medical referrals as required; guides subordinate trainers and student athletes in the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries; oversees and provides for the maintenance of medical records, treatment and progress reports, and related files Ensures students and programs comply with NJCAA, MCCCD, Region I and ACCAC regulations, policies and procedures
10% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff; identifies training needs and opportunities; provides staff training and mentoring; meets with coaches and players to review athlete treatment and rehabilitation plans; coordinates, recruits, monitors and oversees students involved in the student athletic training program; manages and administers assigned budget and expenditures; identifies resource needs and provides recommendations
5% - Coordinates with coaching staff in the development of athletic conditioning programs
5% - Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in sports medicine, kinesiology, recreation therapy, sports nutrition, athletic training, exercise science, health, or related field and four (4) years of athletic training experience.
OR
Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and six (6) years of athletic training experience.
OR
High School Diploma / GED and eight (8) years of athletic training experience.
Special Requirements Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications : Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer Certification and Arizona Board of Athletic Trainers Licensure required. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License may be required for some assignments.
Desired Qualifications A. 4-5 years of professional experience in athletic training
B. Ability to evaluate injuries and determine treatment and to administer first aid and CPR.
C. Demonstrated experience in athletic training, conditioning and rehabilitation
D. Experience with maintaining inventory and ordering supplies
E. Experience supervising and coordinating coverage of athletic trainers for athletic programs and events.
F. Experience using sports injury tracking software and computerized neurocognitive assessment
G. Experience overseeing students in student athletic programs including pre-physicals, assisting student’s rehabilitation plan, processing injury reports, experience evaluating and monitoring student athlete’s physical conditioning programs
Special Working Conditions
May be required to work evening and weekend hours; summer work hours vary
May be required to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
May be exposed to various weather conditions
may be assigned to work at various Mesa Community College campus locations.
Local and state, and out of state travel will be required, including driving a multi-passenger van. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving :
