Mental Health Professional I - Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) / Orangeburg Apply for the Mental Health Professional I – Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) / Orangeburg position with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

Job Responsibilities Under general supervision, provide intensive home‑based, time‑limited services to families who are in crisis and at immediate risk of dissolution. Services are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Provide treatment to clients and their families using the MDFT (Multi‑Dimensional Family Therapy) approach. The primary goal is to keep families safe and intact.

Key Responsibilities

Provide assessments and ongoing clinical treatment to families assigned to Intensive Family Services (IFS) based on the nine principles of MDFT.

Provide case coordination to assigned caseload.

Maintain liaison with personnel from other agencies/resources to facilitate treatment of assigned cases (including DJJ).

Collect, organize, and record data and information for each client’s medical record according to QA guidelines.

Complete MDFT/IFS paperwork according to service requirements, including treatment plans, weekly MDFT group participation, and phone consultation as needed.

Minimum Requirements

A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences, or a related field.

Evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care, such as a practicum, internship during graduate program, or post‑graduate clinical experience.

Successfully pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) certification.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, reach, pull, bend, climb stairs, move from one area to another, and lift 20 lbs.

Provide specific clinical activities on your application and/or resume.

Practical therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods, and counseling practices for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.

Ability to listen, understand, and communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

Knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics, family and group psychotherapy.

Ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.

Ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.

Will receive routine supervision from a supervisor, psychiatrist, and monthly consultation groups.

Activities are governed by OAMHC and OMH policy and procedure.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience treating individuals diagnosed with mental illness.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Position Status Position is essential and may be called back during crises, disasters, or emergencies.
