Job Summary Responsible for duties in support of departmental efficiencies, including scheduling, registration, patient pre‑admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information. Employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greet patients following Conifer Standards of Care; provide world‑class customer service; complete full patient registration at the date of service; adhere to financial and cash‑control policies and procedures; explain and secure hospital and patient legal forms; scan PHI; create and file patient information packets for upcoming hospital services; assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures.
Educate patients about financial liabilities; employ proper collection techniques; perform hospital cash reconciliation and secure payment entry per financial and cash‑control policies.
Secure medical‑necessity checks/verification; verify insurance benefits, coverage, and eligibility; complete registration financial‑clearance work lists; obtain insurance authorizations; secure inpatient visit notifications to payors; assist with scheduling and coordinating post‑discharge care.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute.
Functional working knowledge of PC, printer, and related equipment.
Knowledge of hospital environment functions preferred.
Customer‑service skills and experience.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to receive and convey detailed information orally and in writing.
Understanding of third‑party payor requirements preferred.
Understanding of compliance standards preferred.
Ability to perform essential duties in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department.
Use of proper negotiation techniques to professionally collect money owed by patients and guarantors.
Build collaborative relationships with internal and external clients to enhance communication and accuracy.
Interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
0–1 year in a customer‑service role.
0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health‑insurance, or related area preferred.
Some college coursework preferred.
Physical Demands
Must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
Resolve physician office and patient issues; may encounter extreme patient volumes and uncooperative patients.
Occasionally lift or carry items up to 25 lb.
Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients.
Work Environment
Hospital administration setting.
Work may occur in patient care locations with potential exposure to life‑threatening conditions.
Other
Must be available to work hours and days as requested by departmental or system demands.
