The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.**Description of Work**Only current NC State Government employees or former RIF employees, eligible for priority reemployment consideration as described by GS126.
Duties involve supervisory and regulatory work in the State’s food regulatory program. Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of field regulatory specialists engaged in inspecting and regulating a wide variety of food processing plants and commercial outlets for compliance with food safety and overall sanitary conditions and proper interpretation of State and federal laws and regulations. Trains field regulatory specialists; conducts and coordinates in-service training programs; regularly evaluates field regulatory specialists’ performance and determines training needs. Reviews laboratory analysis reports and coordinates further appropriate action with food compliance officers. Considerable contact is required with representatives of processing plants and distributing firms concerning laboratory analysis and field inspection reports. Reviews plans and processes of parties who propose to manufacture, transport, store, or offer food for sale for conformance to State and federal laws and regulations.
Work territory includes: Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly and Union
Candidate must:
1) reside within a county in the territory or
2) reside in NC, within 20 miles, or 30 minutes of any of the counties within the territory or
3) relocate at own expense, to one of the counties within the territory within four months of employment.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Recruitment Range: $41,655 - $67,000*** Considerable knowledge of State and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of foods and food products.* Considerable knowledge of the techniques and equipment used in the manufacture, storage, and distribution of foods and food products.* Ability to supervise, plan, and coordinate the work of field specialists.* Ability to train and evaluate the performance of field specialists.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and persons engaged in the manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale of foods..Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
