Fuel Oil Trader
to join their
London office
and expand their footprint in the global fuel oil market.
Your Role As a
Fuel Oil Trader , you will be responsible for originating, structuring, and executing physical and paper trades across fuel oil markets (VGO, VLSFO, HSFO, IFO, etc.) in Europe and globally. You will work in close coordination with logistics, risk, and finance teams while actively developing and maintaining relationships with counterparties across the value chain.
Key Responsibilities Trading & Market Development
Execute
physical fuel oil trades
across Europe, Middle East, and Asia, including blending, arbitrage, and storage plays.
Manage
paper trading
activities (swaps, futures, options) to hedge and optimize exposure.
Identify and develop new commercial opportunities, including
supply contracts, term deals, and structured trade flows .
Relationship & Deal Management
Build and sustain strong relationships with
suppliers, refiners, terminals, shipowners, and end-users .
Negotiate commercial terms and execute deals aligned with internal risk and compliance policies.
Monitor vessel movements, storage economics, and port operations to optimize trade execution.
Strategy & Analysis
Conduct in-depth market analysis including
price spreads, freight costs, supply-demand flows, and regulatory impacts
(e.g. IMO, carbon trends).
Work with market intelligence, analytics, and risk teams to refine trading strategies.
Contribute to building the company’s
global trading strategy
for the fuel oil desk.
Risk & Compliance
Monitor exposure and ensure compliance with internal trading limits, hedging strategies, and risk controls.
Work with operations and legal to ensure contracts, logistics, and settlements are executed flawlessly.
What You Bring
✅
5+ years of trading experience
in fuel oil, middle distillates, or refined products within a trading house, oil major, or bunker supplier.
✅ Proven track record of
profitable P&L and strong commercial dealmaking .
✅ Knowledge of
shipping and storage logistics , blending economics, and bunker trading dynamics.
✅ Experience with
physical and paper trading , including derivatives and hedging strategies.
✅ A well-established
network of industry contacts
in Europe and beyond.
✅ Strong analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with a high level of resilience and adaptability.
