Research Technician I – Iron Horse Department: CAES‑Campbell Research & Educational Center. The position supports the 600‑acre plant sciences research farm, assisting the Farm Manager with daily operations, research protocols, and farm maintenance.

Responsibilities

Assist the Farm Manager with day‑to‑day operations of a 600‑acre research farm.

Interact regularly with CAES research faculty, staff, and students to ensure research protocols are followed.

Operate agricultural equipment, guidance systems, and variable‑rate controllers; apply fertilizers and pesticides; perform land preparation.

Collect soil samples and conduct general farm maintenance and repair tasks.

Assist with general upkeep of research farm facilities and equipment, including building maintenance, wildlife fencing, mowing, landscaping, and machine maintenance.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Work in adverse weather conditions.

Lift up to 75 lbs.

Drive as needed to perform job tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Knowledge of the scientific method as it applies to plant research, familiarity with row‑crop agriculture in the southeastern U.S., ability to operate large farm equipment within confined spaces, team‑player attitude, basic understanding of precision agriculture equipment, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
