Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as an ICU RN
Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS (AHA/ARC) and ACLS (AHA/ARC) certifications
Preferred Qualifications
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
TNCC and NIHSS certifications
Other certifications or licenses as required for the position
Summary The ICU Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, critical care to patients in the intensive care unit. Responsibilities include assessment and monitoring of critically ill patients, operation of life‑support equipment, advanced medication administration, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires strong critical care skills, advanced clinical judgment, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient safety and professional ethics in high‑acuity settings.
Essential Work Functions
Assess and monitor critically ill patients and respond to subtle changes in condition
Administer complex medications and treatments per approved critical care techniques
Operate and manage advanced life‑support equipment
Ensure patient safety and comfort, addressing physical and emotional needs
Document significant conditions, reactions, and interventions, notifying providers of changes in status
Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring (arterial lines, central venous pressure, pulmonary artery catheters)
Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and responses in a timely manner
Provide education to patients and families about the ICU environment, treatments, and recovery expectations
Communicate closely with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care
Maintain proficiency in critical care procedures and technologies through ongoing education and training
Adhere to strict infection control protocols to protect patients and reduce risks
Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance ICU outcomes and efficiency
Perform additional duties as assigned within scope
Follow hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication skills
Proficient in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English
Ability to comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and use PC tools
Physical endurance to remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
Professionalism and positive attitude when interacting with diverse personnel
Fine motor skills for procedures and equipment handling
Stress tolerance and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
Adaptability to irregular schedules and continuous focus on detail
Visual acuity and effective communication abilities
