General Purpose The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing comprehensive oral hygiene to Cornerstone Family Healthcare patients, including cleaning teeth and gums, providing patient education on oral care, and supporting the dentist in examinations.

Description Of Duties

Collaborates with the Dentist to meet oral health needs.

Provides education to patients regarding good oral hygiene habits.

Cleans and polishes teeth.

Examines the teeth, gums, and oral cavity and records any abnormalities.

Assists the Dentist in the examination process if necessary.

Performs patient screening procedures, oral cancer screening, and dental charting.

Takes and develops x‑rays.

Applies preventive materials to the teeth.

Provides training for dental assistants as needed.

Complies with governmental safety, health rules and regulations.

Provides consultation to Director regarding dental services planning.

Coordinates dental services with other professional services.

Maintains accurate, timely, and up‑to‑date patient files and records.

Participates in meetings, conferences, and committees.

Maintains records files, logs and reports in accordance with Center policy.

Maintains and cares for equipment.

Attends monthly department and All Staff meetings.

Follows all clinical and administrative policies and procedures.

Maintains confidentiality of patient, financial, and staff information.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene.

New York State License: Registered Dental Hygienist.

Thorough knowledge and practice of current quality dental practices and procedures.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Interest in Community Health Center and public health settings.

Good judgment and decision‑making ability.

Flexible, responsible, tactful, resourceful, and objective.

Good health and attendance record.

Valid, unrestricted driver’s license and independent means of transportation for frequent travel to assigned offices.

Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristic of this role include standing, walking, using hands to handle instruments, occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds, and exposure to climate and noise conditions typical of a health care setting.
