Job Overview The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking a Dental Assistant for its Endodontic Division to join the patient care team. Endodontic Division faculty, dental students and staff are specially trained in the use of advanced technologies, such as digital imaging, operating microscopes and ultrasonic for diagnosing and treating oral and facial pain, and problems associated with the inside of the tooth. The college's Dental Assistant for Endodontics is an important function in the health care delivery system in the College.
The Dental Assistant will provide support of patient treatment and dental student education in the Endodontic Division, Pre-Doctoral Clinic and Dental Emergency Clinic within the College of Dentistry; prepare and maintain instruments and clinical activities; will serve as chair‑side dental assistant performing four‑hand chair‑side dental assisting and radiography; serve as back‑up surgical assistant in Graduate Endodontics Clinic; maintain and troubleshoot dental equipment; may order general supplies for clinic.
Responsibilities
Perform four‑hand chair‑side dental assisting and radiography.
Assist in clinic procedures, including instrument preparation and sterilization.
Support dental student education in the Endodontic Division, Pre‑Doctoral and Emergency Clinics.
Serve as back‑up surgical assistant in Graduate Endodontics Clinic.
Maintain and troubleshoot dental equipment.
Order general supplies for the clinic.
Position Requirements
Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
Use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers, ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental handpieces and operate dental equipment.
Use of feet to manipulate rheostats for handpieces or other dental equipment.
Ability to work from a dental stool, sit and stand for extended periods.
Color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination; hand‑eye coordination; physical communication; visual acuity; communication/language development.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemical hazards (skin irritants), vibrating equipment, sharp instruments, and latex.
High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Must pass health standards and requirements prescribed by law prior to appointment (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test).
Must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer.
Desired Qualifications
2‑4 years of relevant experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments.
Experience in an educational setting.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and internet/email.
