Title: Mental Health Clinician II – Part‑Time (Watched by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care – UBHC)
Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) is one of the largest behavioral health systems in the United States. UBHC provides evidence‑based services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. Over nine million services were delivered in FY2016, and the organization operates 15 sites across the state. The behavioral health Clinician II will work within the Acute Children Department to deliver high‑quality mental health care to patients ages 3‑17 as well as adults (18+).
Posting Summary Rutgers seeks a part‑time Mental Health Clinician II to serve as the senior mental health practitioner for the Acute Children Department. The principal responsibilities include screening intake and referrals, care coordination, documentation, comprehensive assessment, therapeutic interventions, treatment planning, and case management for children, adolescents, and adults. Clinical supervision of licensing candidates, mentoring students and interns, and leading program meetings are also key duties.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of UBHC vision, mission, and values, and consistently applies established policies and quality priorities.
Creates a supportive environment that respects the dignity, privacy, and civil rights of patients and families.
Conducts assessments and therapeutic services with flexibility, empathy, and sound clinical judgment.
Responds to risk by adjusting interventions, assisting in crisis management, and formulating crisis/safety plans.
Composes documentation within prescribed time frames as reviewed periodically.
Provides clinical supervision to licensing candidates, mentors students and interns.
Facilitates and leads staff meetings, case conferences, and clinical case reviews.
Participates in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in a mental health discipline plus two (2) years of post‑master experience delivering psychotherapeutic services to the identified population, or a Doctorate degree.
Certifications / Licenses
Independent license required by New Jersey state law (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LCADC, Licensed Psychologist).
Social Work candidates must hold an active New Jersey certification/licensures issued by the State Board of Social Work.
Valid driver’s license required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in assessment, therapeutic intervention, and case management for children, adolescents, and adults.
Strong assessment of risk and crisis response capabilities.
Ability to adhere to documentation standards and timelines.
Clinical supervision and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a large, multi‑site behavioral health system.
Familiarity with community outreach and crisis stabilization programs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Sitting for extended periods; speaking clearly; typing or writing proficiently.
Universal and safety precautions required; exposure to medical or psychiatric crises possible.
