Position Summary The Behavioral Health Technician increases rapport with clients through trauma‑informed practices, creating a safe, welcoming environment that offers stabilization, encourages self‑sufficiency, independence, and provides basic services and support toward a healthier lifestyle.

Essential Duties

Staff management: participate in hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary processes; provide on‑going training and feedback; support staff development; lead training on trauma‑informed practices, motivational interviewing, secondary trauma, self‑care; maintain weekend staff schedule; facilitate volunteer activities; monitor and ensure required staff coverage for licensure compliance and safety.

Licensing, agency, and contract compliance: utilize licensing requirements to guide daily operations; assist the Program Manager and Staff Supervisor; participate in annual licensing process.

Community coordination: maintain relationships with community entities, client families, agency donors, and emergency response services.

Facility and resource management: ensure weekend technicians organize and clean the facility and vehicles.

Record keeping: train staff to document client activities; oversee client files and paperwork; conduct audits for compliance and training needs.

Client services: apply trauma‑informed practices; manage difficult client behaviors; maintain professional boundaries; facilitate groups; participate in on‑call schedule; attend work regularly; expand knowledge of community resources; keep CPR and First Aid certification; adhere to HIPAA and federal confidentiality laws.

Skills

Degree in social services and three years of experience, or equivalent education/experience; one year supervisory experience desired.

Excellent verbal and written communication; attention to detail.

Considers alternatives before making independent decisions.

Flexible and responsive to change; organizes, prioritizes, and completes multiple tasks independently.

Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office.

Willingness to accept supervision and direction.

Becomes CPR and First Aid certified.

Must be at least 21 years old if driving is part of the job; possess a current driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy.

Must pass Utah‑DHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre‑employment drug screen.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.

Ability to walk up and down stairs.

Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for extended periods.

Work is generally performed in an office environment; may entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
