Department Cardiovascular ICU

Job Description This 12‑bed CVICU unit is located in the penthouse/8th floor of OU Health’s North Tower near downtown Oklahoma City. The unit provides intensive care for adult patients with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diseases, including post‑operative cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries. Patient‑to‑nursing staff ratios are 2:1, or 1:1 for higher acuity. The unit is the only center in Oklahoma that reports thoracic surgery data to the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS). We care for post‑operative cardiac surgery populations (e.g., minimally invasive bypass graft, aortic root repair, ECMO), thoracic surgery populations (e.g., esophagectomies, lobectomies, pneumonectomies), and vascular surgeries (e.g., endovascular aortic repairs, bypass grafting, peripheral artery stents). We also support cardiac medicine, thoracic, and vascular medicine patients with conditions such as heart failure exacerbations, shock, MI, esophageal ruptures, status‑post arrest, and multi‑organ failure. Machine focus includes IABP, Impella, CRRT, EKOS, ECMO, and ventilators. The unit shares the 8th floor with step‑down and telemetry units, allowing quick transfers.
