Program Summary This 1‑year New Graduate Nurse Residency Program introduces new graduate registered nurses to nursing practice from multiple perspectives through didactic, clinical, and experiential opportunities. Participants will attend all didactic sessions, plan and deliver direct patient care utilizing the nursing process, and adhere to standards of nursing practice.

Program Description Designed for nurses who have passed the NCLEX and have less than nine months of RN experience, the program supports development of critical thinking, professional practice behaviors, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, clinical judgment, and knowledge assimilation in a high‑tech, acute care environment. New graduate nurses are partnered with preceptors experienced in practice and supported by clinical coaching plans to validate competency.

New graduate nurses will orient on one unit with preceptors and are expected to work up to 40 hours per week on a varying schedule that may include evenings, night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Following successful completion of unit orientation, new graduate nurses will integrate into a unit as independent RNs in a position that will vary in hours and shift based on unit needs.

Program Outcomes Enhanced ability to provide quality, evidence‑based care, advanced critical thinking ability, and improved skill in clinical decision making.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or other status protected by law.

We are an equal‑opportunity and affirmative action employer and encourage applications from individuals with varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. If you are unable to submit an application because of incompatible assistive technology or a disability, please contact talentacquisition@umassmemorial.org. We will make every effort to respond to your request for disability assistance as soon as possible.
