Ideal Candidate Profile A highly technical SATCOM engineer with deep knowledge of satellite communication architectures, RF engineering, waveform design, and military communications networks. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with UHF/SHF SATCOM, link budget analysis, interoperability standards, protected waveforms, and emerging SATCOM technologies such as multi‑orbit and software‑defined payloads. They thrive in a multinational defense environment and are comfortable generating high‑level engineering studies for NATO capability planning.
Requirements Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Analyze SATCOM networks, terminals, anchoring systems, and architectures across NATO strategic, operational, and tactical domains.
Support the integration of MILSATCOM and COMSATCOM resources.
Conduct system feasibility, trade‑off, performance, resilience, and cost‑benefit analyses.
Develop future‑looking SATCOM system concepts (LEO integration, optical links, multi‑orbit architectures, SDN‑enabled payloads).
Produce Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) documentation.
Requirements & Interface Definition
Develop system‑level functional and technical requirements.
Support NATO interoperability and standardization (STANAGs, profiles, architectures).
Produce Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and configuration baselines.
Capability & Architecture Modeling
Model and simulate SATCOM service delivery architectures.
Assess emerging technologies and provide recommendations for technology insertion.
Support risk mitigation and obsolescence analysis.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
Coordinate with ACT, ACO, NCIA technical authorities.
Prepare engineering briefs, technical papers, and documentation packages.
Participate in working groups, workshops, and industry engagement.
Required Experience & Education
Nationality of a NATO member country.
Degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, or related field ( 2+ years
post‑related experience).
OR
Higher vocational training with
5+ years
experience.
3+ years
SATCOM engineering experience, including UHF and SHF.
Strong background in RF engineering, antenna systems, propagation, modulation, error correction coding.
Experience with SATCOM standards: DVB-S2, S2X, MIL-STD-188.
Experience with cybersecurity architecture for SATCOM, including encryption.
Experience in multinational / NATO defense environments.
