Job Description About the role: Under limited supervision, perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs, overhauls, troubleshooting and upkeep of the LA Plant & Van Nuys sites. Responsibilities include manufacturing and facilities equipment with an emphasis on refrigeration equipment (low and medium temp), chillers (screw, centrifugal, reciprocating), HVAC systems, dehumidifiers and BAS. Positional responsibilities include gas welding, operating diagnostic equipment, instrumentation, use of technical measuring devices, reading electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic control system schematics/blueprints.
How you will contribute:
Perform breakdown and preventive maintenance of critical plant equipment including process chillers, HVAC systems, air handlers, central chillers, pumps, industrial control systems as assigned to refrigeration in both cGMP and non‑cGMP areas.
Repair refrigeration systems, low, medium and normal temperature, cold storage equipment, building automation system components, mechanical and electrical equipment as assigned.
Familiar with plant and divisional SOPs related to positional and department responsibilities.
Maintain refrigerant records in compliance with US EPA and SCAQMD mandated refrigeration record keeping.
Provide troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair of refrigeration systems and components including HVAC, chillers, electrical controls, compressors, pumps, piping, plumbing, blowers, dehumidifiers and facility equipment.
Perform disposal of hazardous waste.
Respond to urgent and emergency work orders for the refrigeration department as needed.
Close assigned work orders in the JDE system.
Complete Change Control documentation (PRs) if required by the assigned work order.
Be trained and qualified on designated facility SOPs governing critical systems: refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, utilities and local GMP practices.
Familiar with generally accepted building, plumbing, piping, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes.
Ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, UBS, UMC and UPC in compliance with L.A. City, CA state and federal EPA regulation and laws.
Follow safety rules and responsible system repairs, upkeep, maintenance and operations managed within regulating agencies.
Attend required training and meetings.
Maintain designated area 5S”.
What you bring to Takeda:
Required: High school diploma or GED; 4+ years of related work experience or AA degree or higher and 2+ years related work experience.
Desired: Journeyman skilled craft training/apprenticeship certificate or commensurate combination of technical education and experience.
Maintenance or project experience at journeyman level in pharmaceuticals or commercial industrial refrigeration manufacturing environment.
Proven successful interpersonal and customer service skills.
Effective communication with internal customers.
US EPA Universal certificate required.
Knowledge of refrigeration systems, environmental chambers (wandering freezers), chillers, HVAC, electrical, dehumidification, pumps and steam heat.
Basic computer skills such as e‑mail and internet.
Experience with computerized control systems preferred.
Proficiency in written and oral English.
Important Considerations:
Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body, plus optional hearing protection.
Remove all make‑up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
Work in a cold, wet environment.
Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours as necessary.
Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
Lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
Climb ladders and move in close quarters, facility non‑manufacturing support.
Combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
Follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing as required.
Work in cold, wet, hot and humid environments both inside and outside the facility.
Work in loud areas requiring hearing protection.
Work around chemicals including refrigerants, oils, alcohol, acids that may require respiratory protection.
Work multiple shifts, including weekends.
Work overtime as required.
May be required to work in a confined area.
Some clean room and cool/hot storage conditions.
