Position Summary
The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine teaching hospital is seeking a licensed veterinary technician to join our Orthopedics service. The LVT will work with small animal patients hospitalized for emergent or planned visits, performing diagnostic imaging, pre‑, peri‑, and post‑operative care, monitoring anesthesia, assisting in the surgical suite, supervising students, maintaining patient records, and communicating with clients.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technician program and passing the VTNE; ability to obtain an LVT license in Georgia within 6 months.
Active Licensed Veterinary Technician in Georgia or transferable licensure from another state.
Experience working within an orthopedic area of a veterinary hospital or private specialty clinic.
Knowledge of animal anatomy, phlebotomy, medication dose calculations, and proficiency with diagnostic equipment.
Responsibilities
Attend patient rounds and input during rounds.
Organize receiving schedule and complete patient status reports.
Perform daily client call‑backs, technician appointments, and specimen collection.
Assist with sedation and anesthesia, including drug calculations and monitoring.
Execute pre‑ and post‑operative patient care: clipping, bandaging, flushing, casting, wound care, suturing, and removal.
Scrub in and circulate in the OR, administer medications, and provideMaintain accurate medical records, including summaries of procedures and client contact.
Track and document long‑term therapeutic outcomes and collaborate with the clinical team.
