The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides comprehensive psychiatric care to patients. The PMHNP conducts psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses mental health conditions, develops and manages treatment plans, and prescribes psychotropic medications as indicated. The role includes providing therapeutic interventions, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, and promoting evidence-based care. The PMHNP integrates treatment guidelines, addresses psychosocial and medical factors, and advocates for patient-centered care in a community mental health setting
Schedule Essential Responsibilities and Metrics
Providing psychiatric assessments and documentation including:
Chief Complaint
History of Present Illness
Past Mental Health History
Previous Medical History
Review of Systems
Substance Use Screening
Social, Family, and Developmental history
Mental Status Exam
Assessment/Diagnoses
Prescribing of psychotropic medications as indicated
Appropriate follow-up care of clients to monitor treatment response
Recommendation of other medical care or therapies that may be helpful to the patient
Provides high-quality service and maintains 70% of direct service hours per month
All Progress Notes are entered into the medical record as soon as possible, and in no more than three (3) business days from the date of service
Participation in the multi-disciplinary approach to client care
Psychoeducation of patients and families about the nature and course of illness, prognosis of the condition, rationale for medications prescribed and a discussion of risks, benefits and potential side effects (long & short term)
Provide crisis intervention as needed
Participate and provide supervision of the multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide consultation as needed
Maintain active role in treatment team and with staff
Coordinate medical aspects of treatment with Nurse, Care Coordinator and Case Managers
Seek supervision from supervising PMHNP and/or Josselyn’s Medical Director as appropriate
Qualifications
MSN/DNP degree with specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse IL license and board certification to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Current controlled substance and DEA licenses
Malpractice coverage is active at a minimum of $1,000,000 / $3,000,000 per center requirements
