Volunteers of America‑Greater New York (VOA‑Greater New York) is an anti‑poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.
We are in search of new talent for the following position.
Peer Specialist
will assist the program in providing treatment services by engaging clients to further their acceptance of services and aid staff in understanding the clients’ issues. Along with the team as a whole, provides follow up services to assure compliance with the service plan. Acts as a role model for the population serviced.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred. Life experience with the service systems utilized by the target population.
Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
Assist the team in giving clients information about the program and its benefits.
Assist with obtaining necessary client information to ensure appropriate services.
Participate in case conferences, schedule appointments for clients and follow‑up on appointment attendance.
Facilitate or co‑facilitate groups and workshops.
Escort clients to appointments/referrals and assist with transportation.
