About The Position The Prince George’s County Health Department’s Family Health Services/Reproductive Health division is seeking a
Nurse Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner I/II)
for entry‑level specialized community health nursing. A registered nurse (RN) with advanced education and clinical training in a health care specialty area will provide direct primary care, comprehensive nursing, therapeutic and preventive health care services. The incumbent will perform physical examinations, prescribe medications, recommend follow‑up care, make referrals, provide health teaching, counseling and guidance, and work under the supervision of a physician and higher‑level nurse.
Responsibilities
Obtain comprehensive health histories and conduct detailed examinations.
Perform accurate evaluation of patient health status and make critical decisions regarding care.
Identify and manage acute and chronic illnesses in line with established medical protocols.
Provide emergency care or crisis intervention in the absence of a physician.
Formulate and implement individualized plans of care and make referrals as needed.
Maintain current clinical and nursing records and serve as a consultant to other health care providers.
Qualifications
Graduation from a National League for Nursing accredited college or university or equivalent program and a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.
Master’s Degree in public health, community health nursing or other appropriate nursing specialty and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Maryland.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Epic EMR patient records.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the Maryland State Board of Nursing.
Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
Successful pre‑employment background checks, reference checks, and drug screening.
Willingness and ability to serve as an essential employee and report during standard or non‑standard hours as operations necessitate.
