Summary of Role The purpose of this position is to effectively manage, control, analyze, and account for costs within the inventory section of the Balance Sheet along with the Cost of Goods Sold and Distribution sections of the P&L: (1) Standard Costing, (2) Purchase Price Variances, (3) Inventory valuation, and (4) Warehousing for Coman, Copack and Distribution Centers.
Primary responsibilities include accurately reconciling and accruing for costs in line with GAAP requirements, providing insights into processes impacting the accounting/reporting function, and compliance in the internal control environment (including SOX controls).
Inventory Management, COGS, and Distribution represent high risk areas of the Company therefore this position will be a key contributor to the implementation and maintenance of new processes to report against the constantly changing environment by means of cross-functional collaboration and work with Co-man /3PL partners in the implementation of system improvements.
Assisting in month-end close related to inventory, COGS (Cost of Goods Sold), and/or Distribution.
Reconciling inventory adjustments from co-manufacturing plants to assure proper classification within the financial statements and all co-man billbacks are processed.
Periodic reconciliation of all inventory location portals to Company software system.
Complete periodic sample counts within control policy parameters at plants with Company owned product.
Reconcile plant production, shipments, and receipt of goods from manufacturer’s software system to Company software system
Role Responsibilities Operational and Financial Analysis & Reporting
Analyzing cost and operational trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
Enabling the research and explanation of anomalies and unusual variances
Monitor cycle counts at co-manufacturing plants.
Identify insights based on available KPI dashboards to enable improvements.
Process, Controls, and Compliance
Collaborate in cross-functional process and system improvements.
Work cross-functionally and with Co-man / 3PL partners in the implementation of system improvements.
Perform control reviews, including SOX controls, assigned to the Accounting and Controls Supply Chain functions, to ensure that these are followed and understood by the various departments involved.
Provide recommendations for process and control improvements to ensure relevance in the changing environment.
Develop, perform, and prepare summaries to communicate compliance reviews within all areas of Supply Chain to ensure policies and procedures are followed and remain relevant.
Provide assistance to business in any areas of concern related to process within Supply Chain on and as needed basis.
Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities
Strong Analytical skills
Knowledge of accounting and policies and procedures
Strong Excel skills and competence with other Microsoft functionality
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with Management and external auditors
Ability to synthesize massive amounts of data into clear, concise, conclusions for management
Experience with an ERP systems (SAP) a plus
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education –
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
Experience –
At least 1-3 years of experience in other financial positions, and a minimum of 1 year of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment.
Previous experience working with Accounting, Sales and Finance in consumer production industry is a plus
