Cath/IR Lab Technologist – MedStar Health Southern Maryland Hospital
MedStar Health is looking for a Cath/IR Lab Technologist to join our team at Medstar Health Southern Maryland Hospital located in Clinton, MD. The Technologist will assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and various interventional procedures. With increased experience the candidate will provide resource and mentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhanced technical skills.
Primary Duties:
Assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena, specializing in the care of patients undergoing basic and complex diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease, including valvular, congenital defects, pulmonary involvement, radial, brachial and neck approaches, O.R., portable procedures, and research protocols.
Perform basic and complex interventional angiography and electrophysiological procedures. Manage patient care procedures such as sheath removal, IABP, temporary pacer, central venous and arterial catheters, ensure safe equipment operation, data entry, accurate reporting, and assist in orientation of employees and students per management instructions.
Conduct patient transportation, effective communication, and evaluation of patient status during procedures, including age and gender specific care, site preparation, EKG lead placement, blood pressure, pulse oximetry setup, and hemodynamic monitoring.
Implement procedural requirements: room preparation and breakdown, fluid prep with accurate contrast concentrations, stocking, daily quality control checks, radiographic, hemodynamic, and computer setup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and field. Adhere to occupational and radiation safety regulations (badges, lead aprons, goggles, gloves). Obtain and document pertinent patient data.
Function in rotating roles: room circulator (patient interaction, monitoring/vital signs, procedural documentation, setup), scrub (maintain sterile field, infection control, monitor catheter patency), monitor (control room, operate X‑ray, hemodynamic equipment, report EKG, blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oximetry changes, record pressures, assist with imaging transfer).
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Graduate of an Accredited Radiological Technology college.
1‑2 years recent Cath/IR Lab experience.
Active Maryland license and at least one of the following certifications: ARRT, CVRN‑Level III Cardiovascular – Cath Lab, IF‑RCIS‑certified CV, VI, CCI, RCIS, or RCES.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 90 days.
This position has a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
