Summary Performs radiological procedures at a technical level that requires direct supervision. Must be considered a second level student by clinical supervisor.

Responsibilities

Prepare patient for procedure

Identify patient using two identifiers and two sources.

Document pregnancy according to procedure.

Identify common clinical indications for imaging studies and note discrepancies.

Correctly document and maintain patient care records—ensure orders are correct.

Produce diagnostic quality exams according to departmental and college competency

Set technical factors, position patient to achieve optimal images.

Complete quality exams with efficiency and accuracy.

Maintain competency when performing surgical imaging exams under strict sterile procedure.

Perform quality diagnostic exams with portable machine in ER and floor units.

Recognize limitations of knowledge for student radiographer; avoid repeat or unnecessary errors.

Maintain safety including radiation safety of patient and technologist

Properly shield patient.

Minimize repeats.

Demonstrate compliance with ALARA principles.

Demonstrate understanding and compliance with NPSG’s; maintain safety integrity per room assignment.

Prepared for emergencies and use correct procedures to maximize safety and minimize risks; detect hazardous situations and take action to correct or report; report incidents or accidents promptly.

Demonstrate good infection control practices.

Assist radiologist in performing fluoroscopy procedures

Set up room properly for each exam including proper supplies for radiological study.

Maintain level of competency through educational requirements

Participate in in-service education classes including departmental.

Maintain "in good standing" status under direction of radiology program coordinator.

Maintain knowledge of department meetings.

Meet deadlines for review of educational, policies, modules, meeting, etc.

Stay informed of departmental policy changes.

Identify and address needs of different patient age groups (i.e. pediatric, adolescent, geriatric) and communicate effectively with these patients.

Recognize technical limitations and communicate that information promptly to the supervising tech or radiology physician.

Education Requirements

High School Graduate or GED required. Must be attending an AMA approved school of radiologic technology. Must be a second level student and must be in good standing with current curriculum. Must be in a program for CT Tech.
