Health Care Provider Responsibilities
Ensure the pre-operative and post-operative areas are clean and maintain a therapeutic environment. Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in good working order. Admit the patient to the unit and prepare them for the scheduled procedure. Conduct initial assessment and determine nursing needs, including transport and durable medical equipment instructions. Explain nursing procedures and provide actions to reduce anxiety. Identify the patient’s physical and mental status. Monitor the patient’s medical condition and report significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist. Assure surgical consent, pre-operative test results, and History & Physical are documented prior to the procedure. Make pre-op and post-op calls to patients, report important health history facts to the operating room nurse/medical director. Provide emotional support to patients and family members. Document patient care accurately in the medical record, implement doctor’s orders promptly, and educate patients/family. Maintain working relationships with patients, families, visitors, and staff. Conform to clinical competencies, problem solving, decision making using evidence-based approach, and emergency situation management. Complete patient care responsibilities timely with accurate documentation, manage downtime efficiently, and adapt to unexpected changes. Protect patient privacy, follow HIPAA and confidentiality policies. Follow all safety rules, report accidents promptly, and address hazards. Maintain department policies and procedures, adhere to company standards, and perform related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications. Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks. Self-control to maintain composure, keep emotions in check, and avoid aggressive behavior. Ability to diagnose, plan, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate patient condition. Compliance with facility policies, procedures, and continuing education programs. Practices nursing within the scope of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and accepts personal accountability for actions. Effective communication skills for collaborative nursing practice. Ability to respond quickly and adapt to changing patient conditions. High stress tolerance, accepting criticism and maintaining calm in stressful situations. Independent work capability, guiding oneself with minimal supervision. Organized systems to ensure timely patient flow and accurate records. Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., carry 35 lbs., push and pull 25 lbs., lift overhead 25 lbs., and perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, and reaching. Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment. Excellent patient interaction skills and professional communication. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and EMR. Energetic and eager to learn and develop new skills. Education & Experience
College degree required; minimum of an Associate’s Degree with a Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum 2 years recent experience in a peri-operative environment. Registered Nurse in the State of Texas; license must remain active and unencumbered while employed. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Completion of additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates.
