Responsibilities

Provides effective clinical assessment of the consumer

Utilizes assessment data to support a DSMV substance abuse and mental health diagnosis

Formulates appropriate treatment plan in collaboration with the consumer

Provides individual, group, and family therapy based on basic therapeutic models and theories according to consumer needs

Recognizes crisis states and deescalates or resolves situations

Collaborates with treatment team members and outside sources to deliver clinical services

Evaluates consumer for discharge planning

Adheres to professional code of ethics

Demonstrates substance abuse specific competencies

Provides HIV/AIDS education, counseling, and testing when necessary

Conducts random observed urine analyses of same‑sex consumers

Supervision and Consultation

Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed

Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement

Actively works to enhance clinical skills

Clinical Record Keeping

Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy

Documents comprehensive mental health assessments

Documents measurable and specific goals in the treatment plan

Documents case disposition, case closings, follow‑up, and referrals

Case Load Management

Manages caseload based on consumer needs

Meets AltaPointe productivity standards

Professional Conduct

Treats consumers with care, dignity, and compassion

Respects consumer privacy and confidentiality

Is pleasant and cooperative with others

Assists consumers and visitors as needed

Values and respects individual differences

Maintains a gentle and calm demeanor with consumers and families

Administrative Duties

Participates in performance improvement activities

Participates in AltaPointe committees as required

Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner

Accesses appropriate community resources according to consumer needs

Follows AltaPointe policies and procedures

Maintains current license and requirements for renewals

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, sitting, and walking in bursts of 5 to 10 minutes, with extended periods as needed

Walking to/from the van, facility, and store; carrying carts and opening/closing doors (up to 25 pounds)

Repetitive reaching to hand out lunches (lifting force up to 3 pounds)

Fine manipulation and dexterity for paperwork, computer keyboarding, data entry, and mouse use

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in a mental health discipline. NAADAC or AADAA certification to be obtained within 18 months of hire.

LPC, LCSW, or LMFT with two years of substance abuse experience preferred.

Knowledge Requirements

Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in adults

Understanding of substance use disorder as a primary illness

Understanding of gender‑specific issues related to substance use

Knowledge of substance use treatment principles

Familiarity with twelve‑step support groups such as AA, NA, CA, Celebrate Recovery, and other self‑help groups

Knowledge of co‑dependency dynamics and common behaviors (denial, manipulation)

Understanding of the psychosocial and medical effects of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol and tobacco

Skills for reducing negative effects of substance use and tailoring treatment modalities

Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical resources for addiction treatment

Awareness of cultural diversity in substance use

Basic knowledge of the criminal justice system, including court hearings and probation officers

Knowledge of risks for illnesses among IV drug users (HIV/AIDS, TB)

Basic knowledge of psychiatric disorders for referral purposes

Knowledge of opioid and alcohol medication‑assisted treatment medications and their clinical effects

Knowledge of behavioral management and crisis intervention for consumers with substance use issues

Additional for Medication Assisted Treatment Programs Knowledge of opioid substitution therapy and its expected clinical effect, including prevention of withdrawal symptoms, reduction of craving, and blocking the effect of other illicit or self‑administered opioids. Knowledge of program specific regulations.
