Requirements
Registered Nurse in the state of employment
Prior experience with chemical addiction and/or mental health disease including psychopharmacology
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification
Minimum of one year experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health field
The ability to triage in an emergency and assist nurses in medical emergencies
Preferred
Three year experience with chemical addiction and/or mental disorders including psychopharmacotherapy
Responsibilities
Screen and assess each patient for co‑existing medical problems and risk factors for appropriate placement for treatment
Administer medications/treatments as ordered in accordance with state and federal regulations
Ensure accurate recording of medication administration transactions
Follow the treatment plan of the physician and/or medical director
Facilitate and educate patients in group processes for chemical dependency issues, infectious disease, medical and mental health issues
Administer, interpret, and keep accurate documentation of Mantoux test for teammates
Assess patient response to treatments and medications, interactions, and effectiveness
Document and summarize individual nursing care and communicate changes, progress, and immediate medical care needs to the provider for follow‑up consultation
Order medical supplies, maintain proper inventory and record of use as per regulations
Maintain all medical records including individual charts, daily medication charts, dosage records, progress notes, doctor’s orders, etc., as required
Makes appointments for patients to see physician; obtains lab workups and checks with patients to see that appointments are kept
Counsel patients regarding personal hygiene, abnormal lab results, HIV/AIDS testing, and all medical matters including changes in treatment
Discusses with physician and team important changes in treatment or noted patterns of behavior affecting treatment
Provides referral for specialized care at local health centers and follows up on patients’ attendance and treatment
Assists in organizing transfers of patients to and from different levels of care
Assist in training teammates in medical conditions, responses, and patient care
Maintain continuing education credits as required by the Board of Nursing
Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required
May assist doctor during physical examinations
Keep medication room clean and orderly; maintain medical equipment
Other duties as assigned
