Job Summary The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator reports to the Surgical Services Business Manager and performs surgical scheduling duties across multiple hospital operating rooms, medical admissions, and pre‑admission testing (PAT). Responsibilities

Demonstrate competency individually and as part of the team in performing surgical coordinating duties.

Exercise discretion when interacting with patients.

Coordinate and schedule elective and urgent surgeries for the physician practice per hospital guidelines, using surgical block time whenever possible.

Release assigned blocks when requested or request surgical time outside of block time.

Coordinate surgical assist cases.

Respond to questions regarding the physician’s operating (OR) schedule and communicate hospital policies and procedures to physician offices.

Communicate any schedule changes with the OR, PAT, and physician office.

Use designated computer software and forms to schedule all surgical cases.

Collaborate with hospital surgical services, financial counselors, and admissions office.

Schedule appointments and testing within established guidelines, including pre‑admission testing.

Check office and surgery schedule daily.

Monitor physician privileges to ensure admitting privileges are current.

Attend and participate in staff meetings.

Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred (Secretarial Sciences or related field).

Proficient personal computer skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and effective prioritization and organizational skills.

Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care across the lifespan, including cultural diversity sensitivity.

Minimum 3 years experience as a surgical scheduler in a physician’s office.

Familiarity with medical office procedures, terminology, and surgical scheduling preferred.

Experience demonstrating organizational, leadership, and communication skills; willingness to serve as a resource to practice staff.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements Healthcare environment including acute care hospitals, physician offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Adheres to safety procedures and precautions, including use of safety equipment and protective clothing. Independently functions within broad scope of practice and hospital policies. Generally refers specific problems to supervisor for clarification when needed. No supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation Pay Range:

$18.66 – $30.77 per hour
