Medical Laboratory Scientist – 30 hrs – Midnights
Join Henry Ford Macomb Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment. This 30‑hour night position involves performing routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and other body fluids, utilizing manual techniques or laboratory instruments and information systems.
Responsibilities
Perform routine and complex biological, chemical, cytological, hematological, histologic, immunological, microscopic, and/or bacteriological tests on laboratory specimens.
Apply independent clinical judgment to take action and develop solutions, collaborating with leadership staff to improve processes.
Evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to ensure accuracy and reliability of all analytic data prior to release.
Correlate results with other lab data and/or disease states, identifying technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results.
Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, instruments, and laboratory information systems.
Maintain compliance with departmental and institutional policies, quality assessment and improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.
Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities such as proficiency testing, data gathering for quality assurance, and quality improvement committees.
Maintain the laboratory and procedures in inspection‑ready condition.
Education / Experience Required
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Coursework must align with duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (as listed on the ASCP website) or possess a categorical scientist level certification (BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB, AAB, AMT).
Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions.
Laboratory Functions Required
Perform all routine and complex analytical procedures, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments.
Interpret and report analytical results in a timely manner.
Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
Location & Compensation Ann Arbor, MI – $67,808.00–$98,425.60 per year (approximate range).
Shift: Night; Employment type: Full‑time; Seniority level: Associate.
