Position Overview The Clinical Dietitian works with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimum care for both inpatients and outpatients, completing medical nutrition therapy assessments, instructions, and care plans. The role participates on committees and hospital rounding teams and provides presentations and learning opportunities for the community.
Responsibilities
Screen inpatients and outpatients for nutritional risk using established protocols and policies.
Maintain an adequate patient caseload with appropriate prioritization of consultations.
Participate in patient rounding.
Provide medical nutrition therapy, education, and resources to hospital staff and community.
Interact with the Patient Room Service Team regarding meal plans, allergies, meal intake, special food requests, snacks, and other food needs.
Document and record timely and appropriately in the electronic medical record.
Maintain updated records of inpatients and send completed reports to physicians.
Provide nutritional instruction and consultations that are age- and disease‑specific for individuals and families.
Interact with physicians and other medical personnel as part of the patient care team.
Focus on personal development and engage in professional and collegial interactions with peers and students.
Participate in ongoing in‑services and educational seminars with peers and other healthcare providers.
Report safety‑related incidents in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool and attend safety‑related training programs.
Monitor work environment for safety issues and ensure safe practices.
Stay current with state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies that impact area of responsibility.
Ensure all certifications and licenses are up‑to‑date and valid before expiration dates.
Complete all company mandatory modules and required job‑specific training within specified time frames.
Accurately complete all manual and electronic forms.
Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Services, Human Nutrition, or related field - Required.
Master's Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field from an accredited university - Preferred.
Certification & Licensure
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) - Required.
Registered Dietitian Nutrition eligible by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) with registration obtained within 3 months of hire - Required.
Advanced practice or specialist certification in diabetes, weight management, or other - Preferred.
Experience
Experience as a Registered Dietitian in Healthcare - Preferred.
Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics - Preferred.
Experience with Enteral / Tube Feedings (TPN) - Preferred.
Computers and electronic devices are utilized across the organization; candidates must have an understanding of computers and be competent in using common software programs.
