Essential Responsibilities

Collect selected data about the patient’s health status, determine the reason for the visit, identify concerns and educate or physically assess needs, and check and record vital signs.

Record pertinent data on the patient's medical record and recognize urgent or emergent situations, referring them promptly to a physician or nurse.

Participate with other health team members in the development of the nursing care plan, contributing relevant information and implementing the plan safely and completely per team specifications.

Communicate attentively and individually in every encounter, coordinating and facilitating care, and ensuring the patient and family understand the purpose of the visit and available services.

Instruct patients and family in preventive care and maintain their compliance with therapeutic and medical regimens under the direction of the professional provider.

Document all observations and procedures accurately, adhere to KFHPW documentation standards, and maintain a safe, comfortable, and private environment for each patient.

Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for practice, pursue ongoing learning, and participate in staff orientation and student education activities.

Basic Qualifications

N/A

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program prior to start date or equivalent military experience with the ability to obtain an MA‑I prior to start date.

License, Certification, Registration

Interim Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire or Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire.

Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) within 12 months of hire.

Basic Life Support required at hire.

Additional Requirements

If hired as MA‑I, must obtain MA‑C prior to the expiration of the MA‑I credential.

Knowledge and skills listed on the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington Medical Assistant Competencies/Skills Inventory.

Preferred Qualifications

1 year MA experience.
