in the Sterile Processing Department.
Job Summary Responsible for preparing OR surgical case carts, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of reprocessable supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments. Must know all modalities of sterilization and monitor the sterilization process. The role requires rotating through all processing areas, shifts, holidays, and weekends. Work with instrument management systems and related technology.
Essential Job Functions
Follow procedures to clean and decontaminate instruments, trays, supplies, and equipment received from patient care areas. Report unsafe conditions, defective or missing items to supervisor.
Operate cleaning and sterilization equipment such as cart washers, sonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and heat‑sealing devices.
Use proper chemicals, detergents, and disinfecting agents.
Assemble trays and peel packs: identify contents, internal chemical indicators, lot control numbers, wrapping, labeling and sterilization methods. Monitor and document each sterilization load.
Participate in the department Quality Improvement Plan as needed. Handle sterilized items and maintain package integrity. Restock shelves in sterile storage and sustain defined PAR levels.
Transport clean and soiled case carts between operating rooms and sterile processing, and move instrumentation as required.
Comply with safety, security and infection control standards.
Maintain National or International Sterile Processing Technician certification, with 18 months employment to qualify. Continue certification credentials through education and testing.
Participate in required education, orientation and training courses.
Respect privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent.
Knowledge of hospital equipment, supplies, surgical instrumentation, and medical terminology.
Ability to react promptly to emergency supply requests.
Clear communicator.
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience in Central Sterile Processing.
Basic computer skills.
Licenses and Certifications
Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST or CSPDT) required within 18 months of employment.
