Clinical Infection Preventionist
Sentara Leigh Hospital, located in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring a Clinical Infection Preventionist to join our team.

Work Shift First (Days)
Overview In this role you are responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of site‑specific infection prevention and control initiatives, support surveillance activities at division and system level, ensure state, federal, regulatory and accreditation standards are met including required communicable disease reporting, and provide leadership and expertise to site‑specific staff through rounding, education, training, and evidence‑based best practices to improve quality outcomes.
Position Details
Full‑time, 40 hours per week
May involve local travel and on‑call responsibilities
Education
Bachelor’s degree (preferred from an accredited university or college with emphasis in nursing, clinical quality improvement, microbiology, epidemiology or related field)
License / Certification
Must hold and maintain a license or certification
Infection Control and Epidemiology certification (e.g., CIC) required within one year of eligibility; preferred
Experience
2 years in healthcare
Preferred: 2 years in infection control and prevention
Expert knowledge of infection surveillance, prevention, and control standards and initiatives, as well as performance/process improvement concepts preferred
Project management experience preferred
Hospital Overview Sentara Leigh Hospital is a 274‑bed acute care facility that opened in 1903 and relocated to its present site in 1977. It features a dedicated Orthopedic Hospital, accredited Primary Stroke Center, Magnet designation for nursing excellence, and a 24‑hour hyperbaric oxygen program.
