Position Summary Performs, under minimal supervision, daily workflow management of the section. Trains and ensures competency of all new LTAs and phlebotomy students, recommends skill assessments, monitors phlebotomy status reports, and may perform duties of LTA, Phlebotomist, or CLA as needed for patient care. Provides coverage when required.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

Train new LTAs and students, maintaining current competency checklists.

Coordinate and monitor LTAs activities on assigned shifts.

Distribute work assignments and act as liaison between the laboratory and other departments.

Demonstrate advanced specimen collection skills, including computer troubleshooting for LIS devices & printers.

Direct specimens to appropriate departments and use LIS devices accurately.

Review specimen status reports hourly, ensuring all tests obtained and noting constraints in Meditech.

Perform all duties of an LTA and other clinical laboratory assistant duties as directed.

Maintain 95% venipuncture success rate on inpatient and outpatient populations.

Follow standard precautions, wear PPE, and comply with safety policies.

Apply quality improvement practices in daily operations.

Receive and verify specimen manifests, sort labels, and reduce repeat venipunctures.

Answer telephone calls and communicate information effectively.

Perform minor troubleshooting of pneumatic tube and place work orders as needed.

Process specimens: centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and referral to appropriate labs.

Maintain inventory of supplies, monitor levels, and store equipment orderly.

Maintain accurate records using manual and computer-based systems.

Notify section head of unsafe conditions and participate in annual Health & Safety training.

Respect diverse views and contribute to a professional, tolerant workplace.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Graduate of Phlebotomy Training program preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Phlebotomy Certification Preferred, ASCP certification/eligible within a year.

Experience

Phlebotomy experience and laboratory experience required.

Ongoing development of work skills through training, in‑services, and mentorship.

Attendance at staff meetings, in‑services, and review of documentation.

Assistance in orientation of others and active participation in mentoring.

Analytical and decision‑making functions with minimal supervision.

Recognition of when to seek assistance or consultation.

Understanding of hospital and departmental policies and safety issues.

Awareness of programs/services provided by the hospital.

Compensation Range $19.72–$29.30 hourly. Includes comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, 403(b) savings match, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
