Nurse Practitioner (NP)
to join our team of medical professionals in
Tucson, Arizona , where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the
Pima County Juvenile Detention Center . We currently have a part‑time 4‑hour‑per‑week position available!
As a
Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP) , you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the residents. Working within a controlled environment where security is top priority, you will have various duties to keep you engaged, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribing medications, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to a diverse population with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities
Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patients
Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes
Administering medications and providing instructions to patients
Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs and medical histories
Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services
Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate facilities
Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention
Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and well‑being
Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting relevant information
Conducting rounds and evaluating patients returning from off‑site treatment
Admitting and discharging patients from the facility
Qualifications
Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
Must hold an unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Arizona
Current DEA registration
Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician
Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties recognized field
Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, health‑care laws, regulations, and direct service procedures
Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
Integrity, professionalism, and adherence to facility correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Capabilities:
Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
