Day Kimball Health is hiring a Nutritionist to join our WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program in Willimantic, CT.

Hours/Schedule:
30 hours per week / 6 hours per day / Day shift
Weekends Required:
6 Saturdays per year

Job Summary:
The W.I.C. Nutritionist is responsible for the nutrition services component of the WIC Program, including nutrition education, information and referrals to participants. The role uses independent judgment when working with families regarding nutrition services.
Key Responsibilities:
Counsel groups and individuals and act as a nutritional spokesperson for the local WIC agency. Interpret, evaluate, and utilize current pertinent research relating to the nutritional care of WIC participants.
Assist the Program Nutritionist and Site Nutritionist in the nutrition education and breast‑feeding program for the local agency. Assess high‑risk participants and implement nutritional plans.
Assist the Coordinator, Program Nutritionist, and Site Nutritionist in developing the nutrition component of the annual WIC plan in compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines. Certify, evaluate, and determine medical and/or nutritional eligibility for existing and/or new clients.
Attend WIC in‑service meetings for nutritionists and participants on appropriate state committees. Pursue professional continuing education.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree from a four‑year institution accredited by a recognized regional accrediting body with a major in foods and nutrition, community nutrition, nutrition education, or nutritional sciences.
Two years of responsible experience in nutrition in a health agency or health‑care facility, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation/Approval of Dietetics Education (ACEND) accredited/approved supervised practice program (e.g., a Coordinated Program, Dietetic Internship, or Approved Pre‑Professional Practice/AP4 Program) required, or;
A master’s degree in nutrition education can qualify for one year of work experience. Persons with a master’s degree in nutrition who do not have a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition must have successfully completed the equivalent subject matter at the graduate level to compensate for any courses not completed at the undergraduate level.
