Specific Job-Related Duties
Performs highly specialized diagnostic histology, including grossing, routine processing, embedding, sectioning and staining tissue specimens, for microscopic examination by the Dermatopathologist.
Prepares solutions, performs special stain techniques, and provides leadership in development of new and modified lab techniques.
Performs specialized procedures such as frozen sections, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Determines proper fixative solutions in which tissues are maintained.
Serves as the resource for coordination of research projects, test validation, and clinical test implementation activities in the department.
Responsible for Quality Metrics to improve the value of patient care.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.
Shift: Monday – Friday 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM
Hourly Range The hourly rate range for this position is $38.69 - $49.98. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Minimum Education Related undergraduate study
Minimum Certifications Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification required from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
Preferred Education Bachelor's degree
Preferred Certifications ASCP issued Immunohistochemistry (QHIC) certification
Preferred Experience 5 years
