Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Medical Assistant (MA) maintains a highly professional environment, ensuring collaborative relationships with patients and physicians. The MA assists with non‑clinical tasks to ensure smooth patient access and flow, including pre‑authorization processes and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The MA works collaboratively with staff to ensure all proper records are received and all appropriate testing is completed prior to appointments or surgeries. The MA provides updates to staff and patients on timing and status for tasks that could impact the patient’s health and treatment options, ensuring even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices.
Key tasks include:
Scheduling patients (including follow‑up office visits, imaging, and lab work)
Preparation of appropriate chart elements
Checking vital signs
Rooming patients
Assisting with procedures
May be required to start at a different location throughout the workweek or travel to multiple sites.
Qualifications Education and Experience – Required:
High school graduate or equivalent GED
Graduate of Medical Assistant program OR one year previous medical back‑office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment
Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare‑related field
Minimum one year previous medical back‑office experience, preferably within an acute healthcare system environment
Working knowledge of EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record system (EMR)
Qualified bilingual or multilingual candidates
Certifications Required:
Current BLS Certification
Certifications Preferred:
Medical Assistant Certification
CPR certification
Current limited phlebotomy certification
