Instructor, Chemistry at The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce

Lincoln Land Community College is seeking a Chemistry Instructor to inspire the next generation of scientists. The position is full‑time, tenure‑track, and 9‑month.

The instructor will teach chemistry courses, including general education, pre‑health prerequisites, and STEM majors. Classroom and laboratory teaching are required. Duties include teaching 15 contact hours per semester of assigned classes and labs; preparing lessons and course syllabi; creating a learning environment that fosters student success and active learning; developing, integrating, evaluating, and reviewing student learning outcomes to support the College’s ongoing accreditation; participating in departmental operations and program review; evaluating and assisting students; keeping accurate records of student performance; providing timely feedback; maintaining office hours; participating in professional development; utilizing instructional technology; and contributing to a collegial work environment.

Responsibilities

Deliver instruction and maintain curriculum.

Teach and conduct assigned classes, labs, clinicals, studio, and internships.

Prepare lessons and provide course syllabi reflecting content and evaluation procedures.

Create a learning environment that fosters student success.

Develop, integrate, evaluate, and assess student learning outcomes in support of accreditation.

Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods, and articulate courses as necessary.

Consult with advisory committee(s) when appropriate for program/curriculum.

Evaluate and assist students; keep accurate performance records; provide timely feedback; maintain office hours; and comply with registration/records procedures.

Participate in professional development to remain current in the discipline and pursue growth activities.

Attend scheduled monthly department meetings; contribute to a collegial and collaborative environment; participate in program review; complete academic assessment activities; conduct programmatic assessments twice per academic year; compile and submit assessment data; and document changes based on aggregated data.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in chemistry.

Prior teaching experience at the college level.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in chemistry.

Experience teaching general education, majors, and/or pre‑health chemistry courses.

Coursework or training in organic chemistry.

Experience teaching at a community college.

Experience assessing learning outcomes.

Training (formal or informal) in science pedagogy for higher education.

Evidence of participation in shared governance, committee work, or college service.

Experience using a learning management system (LMS) to support teaching and learning.

Experience teaching students across a wide range of ages and diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including concurrent enrollment high school students.

Salary Faculty salaries are determined by education level and experience and will be between $51,901 and $93,337.

Salary ranges by education level: Masters: $51,901 – $76,788 Masters +15 credit hours: $54,499 – $80,627 Masters +30 credit hours: $57,224 – $84,660 Masters +45 credit hours: $60,084 – $88,893 Doctorate: $63,085 – $93,337
