Adjunct Faculty Pool – Nursing Adjunct instructors provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom. The major emphasis is on teaching and evaluating students. Classes are taught in a variety of formats and at several different locations, including online. Instructors also communicate with students between classes and are responsible for several administrative duties such as reporting on academic activity and submitting final grades.
Adjunct instructors will participate in courses on a semester‑by‑semester basis to supervise associate degree nursing students in skills lab, simulation lab, and/or clinical lab settings. Master’s‑degree‑level prepared adjunct faculty may also provide lecture and classroom instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and teaching classes as assigned and as outlined in the course descriptions, course syllabi and departmental guidelines.
Beginning and ending all classes as scheduled and covering all relevant learning outcomes for each course.
Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning; communicating with students weekly and responding to student emails in a timely manner.
Evaluating students using a variety of methods and informing each student of scores received on each assessment promptly.
Using Cleveland State email for administrative purposes and responding to student questions via Cleveland State email in a timely manner.
Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, acknowledging contracts, academic activity and assessment reports, and final grades.
Submitting requests through the department chair, program coordinator/director, or lead teacher for equipment, supplies, textbooks, and other instructional aids.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution is required for clinical adjunct.
Master’s or doctorate‑level prepared faculty can lecture.
An active Tennessee RN license or an active compact license in another state.
Current CPR for Health Care Provider certificate.
Current experience in primary, acute, or long‑term care setting – minimum of 2 years.
Availability / Closing Date Applications for adjunct faculty positions are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed by the department when openings become available. Future teaching assignments are on a term‑by‑term basis, which may include fall, spring and summer. Postings close yearly on October 31; to maintain your application within the system, you will need to re‑apply each year.
Application Requirements Application packet should consist of a cover letter, a transcript, a resume/CV, and three references to be considered for an Adjunct Faculty position. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application process. Official transcripts will be required upon hire. Applicants may be subject to a background check.
Pay Rates Nursing Clinical BSN rate is $35.00/hour MSN rate is $36.67/hour DNP rate is $40.00/hour
