Position Title: Experienced RN - Registered Nurse (Levels 1-3) - Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU) - Part-Time - Nights

Department: Neurosciences

Shift: 7am-7pm (24 hours/week)

Unit Overview: The Neurology/Neurosurgery Care Unit (NNCU) located in the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, Tower B, 2 East is now seeing patients. This comprehensive unit provides elevated care to some of OU Health's most complex patients, encouraging team-based care and easier access to services. The unit focuses on neuro conditions such as strokes, seizures, brain mass, and neck and spinal surgery. It specializes in 24‑7 epilepsy monitoring and offers Yale swallow screening and NIHSS certification training.

Hybrid Nursing Model: OU Health has introduced a groundbreaking hybrid nursing model that integrates both virtual and in‑person nursing teams, aimed at improving care coordination and bolstering the nursing workforce within the state's premier academic health system.

Essential Responsibilities:

Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.

Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.

Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order.

Assist physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.

Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervene when necessary.

Administer medication as prescribed.

Initiate, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.

Deliver patient care safely and competently.

Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.

Inform patient and family of hospital procedures and share care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.

Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.

Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.

Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise‑wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.

Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s winning aspiration.

Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (RN I)

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

0‑3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.

Current Registered Nurse License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC).

Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications (RN II)

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

3‑5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.

Current Registered Nurse License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC).

Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications (RN III)

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.

Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.

Current Registered Nurse License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC).

Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

Specialty certification(s) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.

Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.

Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.

Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.

Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.

Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.

Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.

Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.

Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity, and ability to be diplomatic.
