Job Title: Peer Specialist.

Location: Hannibal, Missouri.

Employment Type: Full Time.

As a Peer Specialist, you'll emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of recovery skills to enable individuals to fully engage in their recovery journey. Your interventions will be rooted in the therapeutic relationships you build with individuals and their families. You'll help clients develop essential skills, access recovery tools and community support, and motivate them to achieve and maintain recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized treatment plans

Maintain communication with referral sources and guardians

Participate in meetings to ensure continuity of care

Research and refer individuals to outside resources

Schedule treatment appointments and provide transportation

Accompany clients to appointments and represent the agency professionally

Support clients in accessing medical services and document services per standards

Offer crisis intervention and facilitate group education sessions

Pursue professional development through ongoing training

Utilize peer support to foster recovery and resilience

Help individuals build community connections and access recovery supports

Assist individuals in accessing mental health and substance use information

Support independent choices and active treatment participation

Help identify strengths and resources for recovery

Mentor, advocate, and coach individuals toward recovery goals

Provide emotional, informational, and instructional support

Encourage healthy, productive, and sober lifestyles

Aid in creating personal treatment plans

Adhere to ethical and confidentiality standards

Show interest in company goals

Education and Experience Qualifications

Must self‑identify as a present/former client of mental health and/or substance use services OR as a person in recovery

One year of direct personal experience with the mental health system

High School education or equivalent

Two (2) years of responsible employment history

Able to complete a state‑approved Certified Peer Support training program within six months of employment

Completion of a 5‑Day Basic Training Program and passing a State of Missouri approved certification examination within six months

Required License/Certification

Valid driver's license

Additional Qualifications

Ability to share personal recovery experiences while maintaining boundaries

Ability to serve as a source of hope and demonstrate recovery maintenance

Knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods

Familiarity with challenges faced by individuals with mental health/substance use disorders

Understanding of legal requirements and treatment modalities

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Ability to connect clients to recovery resources and mutual aid groups

General computer proficiency
