Job Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Unit Details 3rd Floor Johnston Health, Smithfield is a 33‑bed medical‑surgical unit that primarily serves medical patients. Pediatric patients are seen occasionally for overnight observation. The unit focuses on wound care, tube feedings, tracheostomies, and various medical diagnoses.

Full time, 3 12‑hour shifts. Standard shifts: 0645‑1915 and 1845‑0715, with every other weekend. Holidays are rotated among staff. Each shift is staffed with a charge nurse; nurses are paired with an NA teammate. Nurse‑to‑patient ratios are typically 1:5 or 1:6.
Responsibilities
Education: Identify and meet learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level.
Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; revise plan of care when guided; participate in interdisciplinary discussions; communicate relevant information to promote continuity.
Implementation: Demonstrate competence in care of complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilize nursing standards, policies, and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult resources for complex cases.
Leadership: Develop goals for professional growth; achieve objectives; facilitate collaboration; participate in unit goals and performance improvement; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; promote a safe environment.
Patient Assessment: Prioritize care; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; foster relationships with families.
Planning: Collaborate with patient/family; prepare or update plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex problems.
Research: Read relevant journals; bring ideas to staff for applicability assessment.
Qualifications
Education requirement: Graduation from a professional nursing school.
Licensure: Licensed RN in North Carolina by day of clinical care.
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider.
Experience: No prior experience required.
