TravelNurseSource is working with Magnet Medical to find a qualified CVOR RN in Belleville, Illinois, 62226! The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgeries. The RN works closely with the surgical team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care before, during, and after cardiac procedures. This role requires expertise in cardiovascular anatomy, surgical interventions, and high‑acuity care in the operating room setting. Key Responsibilities
Preoperative Patient Preparation:
Assess patients prior to surgery by reviewing medical histories, allergies, and current medications. Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery, explaining procedures and answering questions. Ensure all preoperative orders are completed, including labs, imaging, and medications. Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure using a surgical checklist. Assist with positioning patients on the operating table.
Intraoperative Nursing Care:
Assist with the setup of the sterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are ready. Monitor the patient’s vital signs during surgery. Administer medications and fluids as directed. Assist the surgical team during complex cardiovascular procedures. Maintain a sterile environment. Respond promptly to changes in the patient’s condition.
Monitoring and Documentation:
Document patient status, interventions, and changes in the electronic health record. Record intraoperative events, medications, and surgical team interventions. Monitor and document responses to anesthesia and report concerns.
Postoperative Care:
Assist with the transfer of the patient to recovery or ICU. Monitor for signs of complications and take immediate action. Provide postoperative education to patients and families. Administer pain management medication.
Collaboration and Communication:
Communicate effectively with the surgical team. Collaborate with preoperative and postoperative care teams. Participate in surgical briefings and debriefings.
Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
Manage critical situations such as arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Use ACLS protocols to stabilize patients. Work collaboratively to handle unexpected complications.
Sterilization and Equipment Maintenance:
Ensure instruments are sterilized and functioning. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions promptly. Maintain compliance with infection control policies.
Patient Advocacy and Support:
Advocate for patient safety and comfort. Provide emotional support and reassurance.
Professional Development:
Stay current with research, techniques, and best practices. Participate in continuing education and certifications. Collaborate with colleagues to improve patient outcomes.
