Wastewater Plant Superintendent
The Lake County Department of Utilities is accepting resumes for the Wastewater Plant Superintendent position. The Wastewater Plant Superintendent is responsible for senior‑level managerial duties associated with effectively and efficiently overseeing all aspects of wastewater treatment plant operations, including the management of operations, maintenance, and personnel at our 20 MGD Gary L. Kron WRF in Mentor, Ohio. The Plant Superintendent reports to the Director of Wastewater.
Responsibilities
Responsible for administration, operation and maintenance of the entire facility.
Exercise direct authority over all plant functions and personnel.
Maintain records for all plant processes, including daily logs, weekly and monthly operation records.
Prepare state and federal monthly and annual operating reports, monthly sludge disposal reports, operating budget reports, incident reports, personnel reports, accident reports, research project reports, and any other report requested by federal, state, local agencies or the Lake County Department of Utilities.
Prepare plans for permanent improvement in plant operation, determine adjustments in processes for effective operation and provide these recommendations to management.
Schedule operation supervision duties, including process modifications, modes of operation, pilot studies, maintenance, and staffing.
Troubleshoot operational process upsets and/or interference and provide technical expertise and recommendations to correct these operational problems to maintain discharge compliance.
Provide on‑the‑job training to new employees and conduct in‑house sessions to provide training in new operational techniques, process changes, safety, and state operator certification.
Plan, organize, coordinate, evaluate and otherwise supervise the work of subordinates.
Prioritize and schedule work assignments.
Instruct plant personnel on safety precautions and methods.
Hear employee complaints and adjust or recommend disposition of their grievances.
Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the wastewater treatment facility.
Participate in the interview process for potential employees and make recommendations regarding appointments.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, valid Ohio driver’s license, and a valid Ohio EPA Class IV Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate.
Pass a drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Exercise independent judgment, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and display effective communication and leadership to promote employee growth and development.
