Special Education Teacher – The Learning Center (25‑26 SY)
Special Education Teacher at The Learning Center (TLC) provides individualized learning support for PreK4‑8th grade students enrolled in KIPP DC schools. With a 3:1 student‑to‑adult ratio, TLC delivers a comprehensive intervention program to meet students’ academic, behavioral and adaptive needs.

Instructional Responsiveness & Content Knowledge
Teach challenging lessons linked to Common Core and informed by instructional data.
Teach lessons aligned to students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and monitor instructional data toward mastery of goal(s).
Perform clerical duties related to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records.
Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions and team meetings.
Individualized Education Program (IEP) Case Management
Serve as case manager for students on your caseload.
Create and update Student IEP One‑Pagers and complete quarterly Progress Reports.
Ensure students receive mandated accommodations on classwork and assessments.
Collaborate with related service providers and attend IEP Team Meetings.
Complete required documentation and close out records in the special education database.
Classroom Culture & Student Care
Build an empowering classroom culture that affirms student identities and fosters belonging.
Implement school‑wide and classroom management policies, including PBIS plans.
Use de‑escalation strategies with Crisis Response Coordinators.
Follow TLC’s PBIS classroom and school‑wide plans for consistency.
Additional Information & Requirements
Class schedule: 8:00 am‑3:30 pm, Friday off; teachers on duty Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑5:00 pm (two days) and 7:30 am‑4:00 pm (three days).
Perform clerical, morning, lunch and afternoon duties as assigned.
Pass required background check and meet School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018 requirements.
Additional responsibilities may arise, including field trips, open houses and parent‑teacher conferences.
Qualifications
At least two years of experience in Special Education and working with IEPs (Required).
Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to quality educational opportunities (Required).
At least one year of teaching experience in a public school or education degree with student‑teaching experience (Strongly Preferred).
Experience/strength in content area (Preferred).
Salary: Base $65,500, increasing with experience. Renewal add‑ons up to $5,000 yearly through KIPP DC.

Paid time: up to 10 sick days, 12 paid holidays, Thanksgiving week break, winter, spring and summer breaks.
