Title Student Assistance Counselor - Leave of Absence Opening (January 2025 - June 2026)
Qualifications Appropriate NJ Certificate
Reports To Superintendent of Schools and/or Appropriate Building Principal
Job Goal To counsel students regarding educational and vocational goals as well as personal and social concerns.
Performance Responsibilities
Assists district in implementing and developing curriculum which meets their identified needs
Serves as a resource to classroom teachers and building administrators regarding substance abuse and violence prevention curriculum
Organizes, coordinates and presents in-service for district staff, students, parents and community
Works with school administrators to implement student assistance program
Conducts student drug and alcohol pre-assessments and support groups
Provides counseling with students who have or demonstrate the potential to have substance abuse or violence problems
Communicates and solicits assistance from county prevention officials, law enforcement personnel and related social service agencies that address substance abuse or violence prevention in youth
Serves as a resource, as requested by the supervisor, to community agencies or parent organizations dealing with substance abuse and violence prevention programs
Submits records reports and assignments promptly and efficiently
Provides substance abuse or violence intervention counseling and assistance for families of the district
Maintain confidential records in accordance with existing laws and statutes
Demonstrates professional growth through personal professional improvement
Assists with other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal
