Department Overview A Postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Department of Pathology for highly motivated candidates to work on NIH and VA funded translational and collaborative projects to study novel mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and aging. The major focuses are to investigate the regulation of smooth muscle cell phenotypic switch in the development of vascular aging and dementia as well as diabetic vasculopathy, using a comprehensive array of molecular, cellular and multi‑Omics approaches, genetically modified mouse models, and human tissues. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension contingent on satisfactory performance.

Candidates with a recent Ph.D. degree in biomedical science or related discipline are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should have a proven track record with publications. Strong motivation, good communication skills and the ability to work independently are required. Prior experience in relevant fields including e.g. cell culture, animal handling, cardiovascular pathophysiology and molecular biology techniques is desirable.

Function / Duties of Position To perform, collect and analyze research procedures in all aspects of laboratory setting and ensure accuracy and progression of research projects, including but not limit to:

Collect and analyze research data

Keep accurate details of experimental procedures and original data

Prepare research summaries, abstracts, manuscripts

Develops and document standardized lab protocols, and assist with training of others

Contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications

To assist with managing inventory, equipment, safety and animal audits

Other duties assigned to maintain smooth lab operation daily.

Required Qualifications Education: Ph.D. degree in related field

Experience: Previous experience in cardiovascular research

Exercises judgment in taking independent action and seeks advice as necessary.

Assists in planning experimental design and/or designing research standard operating procedures.

Assumes responsibility for specific components of research project.

Demonstrates creativity and problem‑solving ability.

Good communication skills and the ability to work independently are required.

Additional Details Working Conditions: Project driven, working hours of this position may vary, regular research laboratory setting, exposed to chemicals, animals (mice) and deidentified human fixed specimens, may travel to attend scientific meetings.
