Be part of a team that’s committed to service, innovation, and community.**Job Summary**This level of Inspector is responsible for investigation and enforcement in one or more of the functional areas: city codes, construction, drainage, environmental, housing, industrial waste, park construction, plumbing, roofing, street & sewer, transportation regulation, and water/wastewater construction. Inspects a broad range of more complex projects. Seeks advice on only the more complex/difficult technical problems from a supervisor. The Inspector II works independently in the field and is responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment, and familiarity with a broad variety of problems. May advise/assist Inspectors.**Job Description**## **Overview**## The Utility Inspector inspects, investigates, and enforces city codes for water infrastructure, pipes, and construction. Performs a wide range of complex inspections ensuring proper water delivery, management, and drainage.## **Essential Functions**## **1** Conducts and performs a wide range of inspections on various water and wastewater equipment to determine compliance with safety, engineering plans, and applicable codes and ordinances.## **2** Identifies, researches, and investigates alleged violations of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations; ensures corrections are made when deficiencies are discovered and assists in determining methods to achieve conformance; approves and evaluates alternate methods for compliance.## **3** Issues and drafts notices of violation and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure corrections are made; provides information to customers regarding codes and other regulatory requirements; ensures water and wastewater facilities, infrastructure, and equipment is functional and operating under efficient standards.## **4** Performs complex inspections for complex construction projects, storm sewer flow areas, drainage, and related environmental impact areas; ensures contractors are completing work in a safe and compliant manner; monitors project progress and communicates with project managers and other project personnel.## **5** Inspects piping, collection tanks, and other water management equipment to determine the need for maintenance, the type and quantity of material needed for repair, and the quality and progress of work contracted to outside vendors.## **6** Regulates and maintains an effective ground transportation system of vehicles for hire following municipal ordinances and standards to ensure safe public transportation services for the City of Dallas; ensures that vehicles and equipment are roadworthy and driven by qualified and approved drivers and that services are provided as required by city code.## **7** Inspects and inventories all storm sewer systems and appurtenances manually or with a closed circuit television system to grade them for repair and maintenance purposes.## **8** Performs inspections of water and wastewater construction projects for adherence to contract documents such as materials quality, design criteria, code requirements, cost control, and safety for both public and workers## **9** Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.## ## **Knowledge and Skills**## **1** Knowledge of inspection practices and procedures.## **2** Knowledge of Water infrastructure and equipment for City.## **3** Knowledge of applicable standards, ordinances, laws, and regulations.## **4** Ability to use power and hand maintenance tools, inspection tools, and precision test equipment.## **5** Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, depending on assignment.## **6** Ability to read, interpret, and apply City codes and ordinances.## **7** Ability to effectively enforce city codes and code-related rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality.## **8** Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.## **9** Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships## ## **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**## ## **EDUCATION*** ## High school diploma or GED equivalent.## ## **EXPERIENCE*** ## Three (3) years of experience inspecting the design/construction/maintenance in one of the following areas:
- streets, storm drainage systems
- water/sewer mains, water/wastewater facilities
- bridge improvements projects## ## **EQUIVALENCY*** ## Associate degree (or higher) in a Construction Management or Engineering field plus one (1) year of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.## ## **LICENSE*** ## Valid driver's license with good driving record. ## ## **OTHER REQUIREMENTS*** ## Subject to fieldwork conditions.**Salary Range**$52,243.19 - $60,002.60The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.The City of Dallas is one of the largest employers in the DFW Metroplex.
